while playing Texas Holdem poker
is not to win every hand. The
ultimate plan is to raise the
level of pot in such a manner,
that the final amount that the
player earns is the biggest,
through a series of calling,
betting, raising the bet. The
logical conclusion of the game is
through the final round, wherein
the players remaining have a show
down of hand and whoever has the
best hand, is awarded the pot. In
case, the others have already
folded up, the one remaining gets
the pot.
The Texas Holdem poker employs the
concept of forced bet by two
players on the table, which uses
the small and big blind bets.
There is no separate dealer in
this game and the dealer button
changes position clockwise after
the completion of each hand, there
is a change in the position of
blinds as well, after every hand.
The player who is immediately to
left of the dealer, posts the
small blind which is usually half
of the big blind. The big blind is
then posted by the player, who is
to the immediate left of the small
blind. The big blind is equal to
the minimum bet. This usage of two
blinds in a hand is known as a
‘double blind’ structure, which is
used commonly these days, in most
poker games. At the end when only
two players remain on the table,
the ‘head to head’ rules are
adopted and the posting of blinds
is done differently. In a ‘head to
head’ situation, the player with
the dealer button posts the small
blind, while the opponent posts
the big blind. After the second
round the situation is reversed
and stays that way till the end of
the hand.
The Texas Holdem poker game uses
52 cards deck with no jokers. In
all there are 7 cards which the
players can use to make a hand of
five cards. To play the game, each
player on the table is dealt with
two face down cards to begin with;
these are the only individual
cards that the players would
receive. The two hole cards are
dealt to the small blind first and
the dealer gets it last, after
this dealing the first round of
betting begins. The first two
rounds of dealing cards to the
players are known as ‘preflop’ and
‘flop’. In the ‘flop’ three face
up community cards are given to
each player and the second round
of betting begins.
After the flop round of betting a
single community card is given to
each remaining player. The final
card called the ‘river’ of the
‘fifth street’, is given to
players, post which the showdown
happens, if necessary.
